Paddy, beloved husband of Dorothy of Calgary, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the age of 88 years, after a mercifully short, but valiant battle with lung cancer.

Paddy was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on December 12, 1920. He came to Canada in 1944 to train in the RAF and was stationed in Neepawa, MB. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Coutts. They married in 1947, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He was employed by Beaver Lumber Co., and he managed yards in Glenboro, MB., and Manitouwadge, ON. before taking over the management in Calgary in 1961. He joined Investors Group in 1963 and served there as a friend and mentor to many, until his retirement at age 81. Paddy and Dorothy loved to travel and visited many countries. Their true love was the island of Maui, which they visited many times. Paddy loved to golf and to play the game of Backgammon. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Probus Club and an honorary member of the Downtown Rotary Club. Paddy faced many health issues during his lifetime and was known for his resilience and remarkably positive attitude in overcoming his illnesses.

Paddy is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Claude Costa, Bonnie Gibson and Keith, and Marion and Merv Lapwood; grandchildren, Paul McCloy, Jane McCloy, Karl Lapwood, Neville Lapwood, and Sharon Lapwood; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Liam McCloy; and his brother Brian Shields in Northern Ireland
