    The Shields Family
Please accept my sincere condolences. I was very sad to hear of Eric’s passing. I was CO of the RMR from 1989 to 1992, having joined the Regiment in 1969. It was always a pleasure to catch up with Eric when I had the opportunity at a parade or at the Annual Mess Dinner. Always immaculately turned out in and out of uniform Eric gave a tremendous amount of time and heart to the Betterment of RMR Cadet Corp 2806(Pointe Claire) as the Commanding Officer and also as the head of the Sponsoring Committee. A true gentleman, a great role model for the cadets and a proud member of the Regimental Family of the RMR. We were all sad to see him leave Pointe Claire but understood his need to be with his family out west. “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” My thoughts and prayers are will you.

  3. Blanche Phillips :

Dear Merelie, Cassandra and Matthew; My sincere condolences in the passing of Eric. I am sure this is a very difficult time for each of you. Since our mothers were sisters and always lived near to each other, our families saw each other often while growing up. I have many memories of those days and of the good-bye party as Eric left to serve with the Canadian Forces in WWII. Later as we both lived in the Montreal area, I appreciated his compassion and concern for others. I was especially impressed by his kindness at the time of the death of my daughter-in-law. He often spoke with pride of his family. Be assured of my concern and prayers. Blanche Phillips, St.Lazare QC
