SHELLEY, Duff “Neil”

 October 7, 1938 – Kelowna, BC

September 26, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Duff (Neil Wayne) Shelley was born on October 7th, 1938 in Kelowna, BC.  Kelowna was where he was raised, attended school, partook in a few shenanigans, and where he met and married the true love of his life, Jacci, in 1960.  Duff was an entrepreneur all his life and ran many successful businesses like a water softening company, a pool company, a motorcycle dealership, and a bulk mailing business.

In Duff’s retirement years, he and his “Sweetie Pie”, spent 10 years living the Gypsy lifestyle in their motorhome  travelling all over the warmer parts of the US and northern Mexico with their beloved kitty cat.

In 2006, Duff and Jacci decided to put some roots back down and settled in Okotoks, AB, to be closer to their two daughters (JoDean and Janneane), their son-in-laws (Alan and Brad), and their 7 grandchildren (Grace, Elizabeth, Shirin, Jory, Jevin, Jaelyn, and Dave).

Duff was an incurable flirt and constant tease.  His many one-liners and jokes were the constant source of laughter.  He loved fishing, motorbikes, sports cars, animals, music, good food, liquid cheer, and friends, but most of all – he loved his family.  In fact, I think he would say his greatest achievement in life was meeting Jacci and growing their wonderful family.

For all those that had the pleasure to know him, he will be very much missed.  Thank you for all the wonderful memories.

A Celebration of Duff’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through  Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Duff’s memory please forward to Meow Foundation, Box 65024, RPO North Hill, Calgary, T2N 4T6 or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 4N2, Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222.

In living memory of Duff Shelley, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone:  403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Jackie:
I was so sad to read in the paper of Duff’s death. My heart goes out to you as I know exactly how you feel. Ron died on Aug. 31st of a heart attack. It is not an easy journey ahead for us but we have wonderful memories. I think of the Kin parties and when we ended up at your house in the pool. Many good times in our younger days.
Duff will be well remembered in Kelowa as a great friend to many and business associate to others.
Take care my friend and let your families love help heal this great pain you are feeling.

    Dear Jacci and Family
So sorry to hear of Duff’s passing. Lots of great memories have come to
mind recently,as you know by Wendy’s condolences that Ron passed
away so sudden and the day of his funeral I learned of Warren’s passing.
He had a heart attack on August 23rd. His life was full for only a short
while some years ago, Duff’s life was full always with the love of
family and good friends. I thank you both for making me and him feel
like part of your family during our years as partners in the motorcycle
Jacci may the love of your family and friends help keep you strong and
loving life as you always do.

    Love Sharon Lebsack (marshall)
