  14. Wendelin Rolheiser OMI :

Dear Connie. You must be a living saint. I do so admire you – that was not easy for Bert, nor for you – but you worked it out wonderfully for both of you. Thank you for sharing Bert’s life and love, and supporting him so well. I am so thankful that I got him on the phone shortly before he died. He was still looking forward to better times. You now have fully inherited the family – he was so proud of them all. I would be happy to drop in sometime when I have the chance – though I expect you will have plans of your own in full swing – with the family and all. Be assured of my prayers for Bert and for you all, especially at this time. Blessings of grace, peace and love.

I taught with Bert at Corpus Christi School in the early 70’s. He was a positive influence on students and staff and a caring person. I am sorry for your loss.

  16. Liz and Brian Hill :

    Dear Connie and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. He was a wonderful gentleman. Both of you subbed for me over the years, but Bert always left a great impression with my Grade 1’s when he joked with them and especially when he showed them the famous “cut thumb” magic trick. My prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

    Connie and Family
Bert (Mr. Sheen to me)….was my Grade 6 teacher in 1978. I just learned of his passing. I remember him as a kind passionate man. He truly was engaged in the best interests of all his students…. which certainly wasn’t the norm. Though he had a temper he will be remembered fondly by me

  19. I’ve only just stumbled on this sad announcement, and wanted to let his family know that one more of his former students remembers him fondly. His ebullient enthusiasm made him the first of what was a long line of great teachers I was lucky enough to have had.
