Fred Setter, beloved husband and best friend of Phyllis Gale of Calgary, passed away at home on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the age of 76 years.
Fred was born on July 8, 1928 in High River. His love of horses and ranching brought Fred to work in this industry in his earlier years. In 1954 Fred enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). In 1975, Fred retired from the Armed Forces and returned to his passion for horses, and became a horse dealer. Fred retired from the County of Wheatland in the mid 1980’s. He loved many things; his family, his friends, horses, the outdoors, and playing darts.
Besides his loving wife Phyllis, Fred is survived by his two daughters, Holly and Heather (John); four sons, Brett (Karin), Todd (Corinne), Clayton (Gail), and Chad (Kelly); a stepson Mike Gale (Trish); a special son Brad McLachlan (Linda); as well as seventeen grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He will also be missed by his special nephew and niece, Ken Christensen (Joan) and Karen Gillett (Paul); and numerous other nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by the mother of his children, Joyce Setter; a son Calvin, five brothers; and four sisters.
