  2. We love DJ and our hearts go out to family and friends. We met while attending VFS, and spent a lot of awesome time together. I’m so happy he lived a full life with those he loved and the countless lives he touched. A true gem of a man, who always remembered how to be kind, and was always young at heart. I wish we could swing it to share our condolences in person, but our hearts and spirits are with you as DJ has made his way to the brightest stars. Love you man. James Elam and family.

I met Dieter in 1999 when we both attended Ricks College for the first time. Together with our mutual friend, Kreg, we shared many laughs. Being from Idaho, we never spent much time with him, but he made an absolutely lasting impression on my life, and will continue to do so. I’ve always missed his presence dearly, and will continue do so even more now. I love you, man.

  14. Jean F Menard :

Hi Amara Danielle, Madison and Darius
I am sorry to hear about DJ . Often people ask the question why did he have to suffer so much? The bible has the answers. St. Paul says in Colossians 1:24:

“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church”

Heaven is our real home, and it should be the total thrust of our life. It was for DJ.. He has offered his suffering for you and your children, his family. The real reason that God allows suffering to come into the world is for the greater good of us all.

May God surround you all with HIS Love … always.. Love and Peace of Christ Jean

  18. Kreg Roenfeldt :

Dieter is one of the best memories that I gained from college. A semester in 1999 and another in 2002, always have been among my favorite. My friend Mark and myself enjoyed those semesters with him, endlessly laughing about anything we talked about. He was a true friend to us. As the years would continue to go by, Mark and I regularly would discuss the great moments from our adventures with him. We were so fortunate to get another week with him, when he visited in 2012. The example he taught me, is how to have vision on the best things in life. He did not know he was teaching me this. The mere example of how he had such simple joy over minor things, opened my eyes. His impact on me remains.

  19. I knew DJ on his mission he was on in Toronto, Canada. We were companions and he made me enjoy the mission. With him, I knew I could have fun on the mission and still represent the church. I had a lot of fun with him and am saddened by his passing. He was a great person and I will cherish the time that I had with him. He always made it a good time no matter what situation we were in. He was a great individual and his sense of humor could cheer up anyone. I am saddened and hope this message helps a little as he helped me.

I was not prepared for this! This world has lost an amazing, kind, funny, fun loving man. DJ was my district leader on my mission when I served in London, ON. I still have drawings of his that he did for some of the scripture stories that I used throughout my mission and even now when I teach at church; such a talent.
My thoughts, prayers, and love go out to those he loved, those who love him, and all those whose lives DJ impacted.

  31. I had the pleasure of getting to know DJ the last months of his life, as a volunteer at Dulcina. He was a bright light and a very special person, and I had some wonderful conversations with him. He was held with great affection by the staff there. DJ was involved in as many activities as he was able to, and wanted to be there to help or assist. He never really spoke about his illness, perhaps in passing, but wanted to talk about my life, and his appreciation for me as a volunteer. That’s the kind of person he was. Sweet and others-centred. I am saddened, especially for his family, by his loss. Thankful to have known him.

I met DJ in 2013 as we started a new job together. Amazing sense of humor and lots of fun to hang out with. We used to longboard together. We were both kind of shit but enjoyed going down hills at high speeds. I remember the day he came into work after a big wipe out and somehow he was laughing about some SERIOUS cuts and bruises all over his arms and legs. Didnt stop him – we were back out that weekend. I moved to Toronto in 2014 and only spoke to him a few times on the phone after that. Always going to miss this guy, he was a great person.

In all of my years of working, studying, etc, DJ was one of the best people that I ever met. A true stand up guy that was intelligent and hilarious. More importantly however, he was a man of great character. I only knew him for a short time, but it was an honour my friend. You’re in a better place now. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

Our sincere thoughts and prayers to you all at this difficult time!
We need not look upon death as an enemy. With full understanding and preparation, faith supplants fear. Hope displaces despair. The Lord said, “Fear not even unto death; for in this world your joy is not full, but in me your joy is full.” D&C 101:36 He bestowed this gift: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
