SCRIBENS, Joan O. (nee Cawley), R.N.

November 29, 1924 – October 20, 2012

Joan passed away suddenly and peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the age of 87 years.

Joan was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated, with honours, from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in September 1946. Joan never quit learning, from developing skills in homeopathy to mastering the computer so she could stay in touch with her family. She will always be remembered by her smile, warmth, compassion and willingness to help others.

Joan will be forever treasured by her family; Ruth (Anthony), grandchildren Angela (Kevin) and their daughter Zoe; Nathan (Dephany), their children Anthony and Anastasia; Stephanie (Drew); Andrew (Katherine); Bill (Jackie), grandchildren Kim; Jen (Brian), their children Cameron and Owen; Tina (Steve), their children Will, Luke, and Ty; Barb and grandchildren Sherri (Denver) and their children Chanse and Joshua, Shane (Amber) and their children Madison and Jace; Alan (Wilma) and grandchildren Kyle and Haven. She will also be missed by her brother Bill Cawley and his family in Richmond, B.C.

Joan was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate, Peter, in January, 2006.

Some of her happiest times were family dinners and the games she loved to play with the family afterwards.

At Joan’s request, there will be no service. Condolences may be forwarded through In Lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Calgary & Area Chapter, 150, 110 Quarry Park Blvd. S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 3G3 Telephone: (403) 250-7090, . The family is grateful to the very kind and supportive staff at the Foothills Hospital who extended so much compassion and caring.
