SCHREIBER – Edna Ann

July 29, 1956 – October 30, 2009

Edna Schreiber, beloved wife of Brian McNamara for 27 years, and cherished mother to Reid McNamara for 16 years, passed peacefully away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the age of 53 years after a five year battle with Multi Myeloma cancer.

She was born in Edmonton, AB and raised on the family farm close to Dapp, Edna took on every challenge with energy, drive and commitment. She graduated from NAIT in 1976 and pursued a successful career in computer systems development until she moved to the Middle East country of Yemen with Brian and Reid. For three years Edna flourished into a woman of the world with great sensitivity to those less fortunate and she reached out to them through charity work, love and compassion. During the past five years, Edna and Brian were business partners in a sign manufacturing company. This was also the time that she fought for her life and twice triumphed over insurmountable odds to lead a life rich in family, friends, work and travel. Edna never gave up the fight and continued to help family and friends to the very end.

Besides her loving husband and son, she is survived by her parents, Karl and Enid Schreiber of Westlock, her sister Konnie Kepford and her two sons Cole and Aden of Calgary plus many relatives and dear friends throughout the world.

A Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to any cancer program in her memory.

In living memory of Edna Schreiber, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Brenda Esplin :

I’m so sorry to hear of Edna’s passing. Many many of my childhood memories are of time spent at the farm with my cousins Konnie and Edna, and I always loved and respected Edna for the person she grew into as an adult. The sun will shine a little dimmer without her here to brighten the many lives she touched. My heart goes out especially to Auntie Enid and Uncle Karl….I love you both.

Brian: Janet Streight kindly contacted me in British Columbia to relate the tragic news of Edna’s passing. I have often thought about you and your family and talked about you with Peter Arnold last year. I will be back in Calgary, after a temporary and restful time in Ladysmith, B.C. just after Christmas and would hope to offer my condolences in person. I know you and your son will be of great comfort to each other during this time. I remember Edna as charming, friendly, intelligent and down to earth. She made me welcome in your home and you were a great team together. Take good care of yourself and my thoughts will be with you.

  26. Dr, Michele Moss :

    Dear Brian and Reid
It was with great sadness that I read of the untimely passing of your dear Edna. I was her family doc before you went to Yemen and she and I had such wonderful conversations…I actually looked forward to her coming in for her check-ups. And then when you came back to Canada again, and when Reid was born and how absolutely delighted she was ( and scared too!!!) to have this precious little one to care for. She was such a wonderful and devoted mom and she was so proud of all Reid’s accomplishments from your first tooth to your first step and on and on…
And then I left practice and we cried together as we had had a special relationship. That was nearly ten years ago and I remember her like it was yesterday…and now, what a shock to read of her passing. My heart aches for you. My deepest sympathies to you and all the members of Edna’s family. My thoughts are with you all in your time of sorrow.
    with love
    Dr Michele Moss
