George Schmitke, beloved husband of Paulina Schmitke (nee Hauff) of Calgary, AB, passed away on December 1, 2014 at the age of 95 years.

George Schmitke, beloved husband of Paulina Schmitke (nee Hauff ) of Calgary, AB, passed away on December 1, 2014 at the age of 95 years. George was a farmer all his life. During WWII he did military service as an Antiaircraft gunner. George coached hockey and attended the hockey arena for several years after the family moved to Valleyview in 1963. He lived a simple lifestyle and was a loving and happy man who will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

Besides his beloved wife, George is survived by his children, Harvey (Alvera) Schmitke of Edmonton, AB, Melvin (Marlene) Schmitke of Grande Prairie, AB, Ted (Gloria) Schmitke of Boquete, Panama, Lyle (Barbara) Schmitke of Calgary, AB, David (Cathy) Schmitke of Kingston, ON, and Royce (Laurel) Schmitke of Cochrane, AB; his twenty-one grandchildren; his twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Calgary, AB), on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonel Belcher for their care and help.

  10. Please accept my condolences in the passing of George. I had the pleasure of getting to know him while playing midget and junior hockey with David in Grande Prairie. He had a quiet strength about him. My parents enjoyed travelling with George and Paulina while following our hockey exploits.
