SCHMIDT, Lydia (nee Labuhn)

July 13, 1922 – March 9, 2013

It is with deep sadness that the family of Lydia Schmidt announce her passing on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the age of 90 years at the Newport Harbour Care Centre.

She was born July 13, 1922 in Felsengut, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1956 with her husband Werner and two children Gisela and Erika. Lydia was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

Lydia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Erika and Bill Schultz, and Gisela and Ray Evens; grandchildren, Kevin (Liz) Evens, Kari (Joe) Pollock, Kristeena Schultz, and Monica Schultz; great-grandchildren, Bradley Pollock, Jeffrey Pollock and Joey Pollock; sister Hildegard Harwardt; and sisters-in-law, Ilse Labuhn, Lisa Labuhn, and Renate Rabold; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend profound gratitude to the staff at Newport Harbour Care Centre and her dear friend Eva.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Graveside Services will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. (meet at the gate). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 66 – 7th Street N.E., Telephone: 403-266-1458.
