SCHIFFNER, Edith

March 15, 1920 – Stettler, Alberta
May 11, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta

Edith passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the age of 93.

Edith will be missed by her children Caroline (Jim) and Ken Schiffner (Jo Ann), Bonnie Walton, Faye Mann, as well as her grandchildren, Emily Schiffner, David Mann, Alexis and Lindsay Walton and her great-grandchildren Katrina and Erin.

Mom was raised, with her brother Jack, in the Stettler area until the family moved to the Cluny area when she was still a young girl. The family farmed there on a hill overlooking the Crowfoot Valley with the help of Mr. Whittaker. Mom loved this area which helped form her love of nature and animals. Mom met the love of her life, Peter Schiffner, and they were married in June, 1941. Shortly thereafter they moved to our childhood home in East Calgary. During our childhood years, mom cared for us, nurtured us, inspired us and taught us. Absolutely selfless and dedicated, Mom gave us all she had endlessly, tirelessly and with joy. Her recipe for success to compliment her selfless habits; “do the best with what you’ve got” – her legacy to her children and grandchildren, this amazing woman, our mother and grandmother.

A Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue SE and Garden Road (100th Street) on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Edith Schiffner, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  8. Bernice Richardson nee Blandford :

    Dear Carol,
So sorry about the passing of your Mom. Was thinking about you today after all these many years and wondered how and where you were. My Mom is still alive and as well as can be expected for 95 years of age. She is back in Esterhazy, SK (her birth place) and my husband, Gary, and I, split our time between PEI and Florida.
I would love to hear from you sometime to learn more about your life and of Ken, Bonnie & Faye.
    Once again, my condolences.
