February 10, 1913 – August 31, 2012

Nora Scabar (formerly Rogers), beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the age of 99 years.

Nora was born in Dobruz, Bulgaria, came to Canada with her mother and siblings in 1924 and lived on the farm near Three Hills prior to moving to Calgary. Nora married Bill Rogers on November 20, 1932. She will be remembered as a great cook, crocheter, knitter and gardener. Nora was a lifetime member of the Inglewood Silver Threads.

Nora is survived by her daughter Betty Gunnarsson; four grandchildren, Kelly (Steve) Kurtz, Tracy (Rick) Bendall, Randy (Berni) Sarafinchan and Tara (Jeremy) Riehl; five great-grandchildren, Jared, Shelby, Alex, Zach, and Brody; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Rogers; two daughters, Jean Sarafinchan and Gloria Rogers; two sons-in-law, Willy Gunnarsson and John Sarafinchan; and her siblings, Pearl Bondar, Mary Laczo, George Stirling and Bill Afanaseff.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Family Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.     I remember Nora Scabar’s cooking at the Silver Threads pot luck luncheons.

    I also remember being served rhubarb pie in her house together with my mother Annie Walters.

    I have many fond memories of Nora Scabar.
