Sawatzky, Helen

Helen Ann Sawatzky, beloved wife of Jake Sawatzky of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the age of 71.

Helen was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 17, 1935. She graduated as a nurse in 1957 from St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, retiring from nursing in 2002. She loved to vacation in Southwestern United States and especially enjoyed hiking in the mountains of Arizona. Helen also volunteered at the MCC Thrift Shop in Calgary.

Besides her loving husband Jake, Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Marianne Sawatzky and her daughter and son-in-law, Evana and Peter Mueller all of Calgary; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Mitchell, Lee and Tanya. Helen is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Martha Krahn of Winkler, MB; her sister and brother-in-law, Frieda and Rick Hamm of Abbotsford, BC as well as numerous other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Kim James Sawatzky; her sister Joan Enns and her parents Bernard and Helen Krahn.

Funeral Services will be held at Foothills Mennonite Church (2115 Urbana Road N.W.) on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Mennonite Foundation of Canada, 100, 2946-32 Street N.E.
