SAUNDERS, William (Bill) Joseph

December 12, 1928 – March 22, 2013

William (Bill) Joseph Saunders passed away at home on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the age of 84 years.

Born in Olds, AB, he lived in Grande Prairie until the age of 12, when he moved back with his father to the family farm outside of Trochu.  He met and married the love of his life, Margaret Hagel, in 1953.  He was wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a loyal friend, a baseball coach, and an avid follower of the rodeo circuit, reliving the memories he made as a chuck wagon outrider in the 50’s. Dad worked in the mill work business with A.R. Bennett for over thirty years and later as a general contractor and finally retired at the age of 80 as a site inspector. Dad was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church for over fifty-five years actively ushering until as recently as three weeks ago. Mom and Dad were married for forty-nine years until her passing in 2002.

Dad leaves behind to mourn his loss, two daughters, Kathy Saunders of Red Deer and Anita Winter (Bruce Norcott) of Calgary; four sons, Claude (Sandra) of Jasper, AB, Michael (Sheryl) of Kamloops, BC, Jeffrey (Deborah) of Moncton, NB, and Darren (Sheila) of Calgary; eleven grandchildren, Denise (David), Christopher, Jessica, Matthew, Jordan, Amy, Steven, Jacob, Alexander, Steven and Erin; and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Karson and Sophia and last but not least  Munchkin. Dad also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Bob Brewster. Also mourning Dad’s loss is his two brothers, George (Marion) and Bert (Florence).

Please be assured that my prayers and thoughts are with you in your time of loss. I will remember Bill at Mass. I felt badly that I was unable to attend the funeral Mass; I was out of town at the time. Bill was especially gracious, supportive and affirming during my stay at Corpus Christi. Truly a good, good man and a person of deep faith. May the God of all consolation be present to you.
    Yours in Christ, Fr. Dennis
