SAUL – Stephanie Lynn

May 2, 1987 – November 22, 2010

Stephanie Lynn Saul passed away tragically but peacefully of an aneurysm in the early morning hours on Monday, November 22, 2010 at the age of 23 years.

Stephanie attended St. Boniface Elementary, St. Matthews Junior High and Bishop Grandin High School. A recent graduate of the Schulich School of Engineering at University of Calgary in Electrical Engineering, Stephanie started a promising career with Penn West Energy Trust in May 2009 as a completions engineer within the Waskada team; a group and position that she loved. Music and Dance were two major interests in her life and especially enjoyed the Rolling Stones and watching So You Think You Can Dance and Glee. Political debate, however, was one of her greatest passions, as many family members, friends and colleagues can attest to. Above all else, Stephanie always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially at the family’s cabin in Montana and on vacations in Puerto Vallarta. Stephanie’s positive outlook and vibrancy always lit up any room she was in. Her wit, humour, intelligence and ready smile were much appreciated and will be missed by all who knew her.

Stephanie is the dearly loved and cherished daughter of David and Berna Saul and the much loved big sister and best friend of Andrew and Michael Saul. In addition to her parents and brothers, Stephanie will be terribly missed by her grandparents, Bernice Mulville of Perth, ON, and Don Saul of Kingston, ON; her lifetime friend Brianna Fowler; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment has been planned for a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Stephanie’s memory to The Stephanie Saul Memorial Bursary in Engineering. Cheques may be mailed to the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, ENC 202, 2500 University Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4.

In living memory of Stephanie Saul, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  5. Not only was Stehpanie a motivated, smart, young engineer with a positive attitude poised to have a great career, she was one of the nicest all round young ladies many of us have ever met. The entire company and many outside of the company in the oil and gas industry are shocked and grief stricken by her passing. The world has lost one of its bright lights who in a very short period of time positively touched so many. Please do not feel alone at this time for there are many hearts and tears with you and your family at this incredibly sad time.

To the Saul family, I first met Stepanie when she participated in a field trip to an area north of Rocky Mountain House with the rest of the summer students for Penn West, three summers ago. She struck me as a very smart and sure person, who had a thirst for knowledge. When I visited Calgary I would bump into her around the office and she was always quick to say hi, smile and engage in a conversation. I cannot imagine how you must feel at this time, but please be assured that you have raised a quality individual. My condolensces to all of you.

I am writing to express my deep sadness about the loss of your daughter Stephanie. I was her Professor at the UofC in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the Schulich School of Engineering, and I came to know her very well. She was always diligent in her work, but with a permanent smile on her face. This is how I will always remember her.

I still remember the day she ended up on our floor and you told me to keep an eye on her to keep the engineers at bay when she was a summer student.

She was so beautiful both inside and out. Her smile was infectious and she always brought out the best in everyone around her.

Not sure what to say except I’m deeply sorry for your loss because I truly feel the world lost one of it’s greatest treasures. You can however take some comfort in knowing she left this world peacefully and that flights of angels will sing her to her rest.

I’m very sorry this note comes so late and that I was unable to attend the memorial or the ceremony as I was on vacation for the second half of November.

Needless to say, I was shocked and deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Stephanie’s passing. I did not know Stephanie that well, only to have spoken in brief conversation at work events and passing in the hallways. That being said, one didn’t need to spend that much time getting to know Stephanie to learn that she was a genuinely kind individual with a heart as big as her smile.

I hope that your family finds comfort in one another and in Stephanie’s memory at this time and during the upcoming holiday season.
