Emil Sauermilch beloved husband of Gertrude of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the age of 89 years.
Emil was born to the late Karl and Melanie Sauermilch on March 16, 1925 in Geismar Germany,
He was drafted into the German army in 1943 and returned home in September 1947, where he trained to become a building engineer. He married the loved of his life, Gertrude vom Kolke in December 1950; together they immigrated to Hamilton Ontario in 1954, and later became Canadian citizens. His businesses were Mountain Bricklaying, Wenton Homes and later, Saunders Construction where Emil had a fine reputation in building custom homes.
After moving to Calgary in 1979, he became active in Real Estate, supporting the German Canadian Association, enjoyed singing in the St. Thomas More church choir, the Over 60 club, a Snow Angel at Parkridge Community Association, and participated in the walking club as well as many other activities that he was also passionate about.
He will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family in Germany, Canada, The United States and The Netherlands.
Emil is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude Saunders; daughter Dianne van der Elzen; son Brian Saunders; his grandchildren, Jeff van der Elzen, Melanie Pearce (Joseph Pearce); and his great-grandson, Rio Pearce. He was predeceased by his parents Karl and Melanie Sauermilch.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Thomas More (15 Templebow Road N.E.) on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
