Shirley beloved wife of Ken Sastaunik of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2014 at the age of 68 years.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Kenneth Sastaunik; her daughter, Allison Mathews; her granddaughter’s, Shelby and Taylor Mathews; her sister, Robbin (Gordon) Lind; sister-in-law, Kathy Sastaunik; mother-in-law, Frieda Sastaunik and cousin Doreen (Joe) Strasbourg. She was also survived by four nieces and nephews: James Harold Lind (Ramona), Shannon Dee Perz (Michael), Carlene Michelle Burnett (Shane) and Jason Hughes, as well as eight great nieces and nephews: Rowan, Tesse, Linden, Noah, Mae, Hope, Claire and Hailey. She was predeceased by her father; Allan Wilson; mother, Janet Newnham; step-father Walter Newnham; father-in-law Ernest Sastaunik and cousin Bob Wilson.
Shirley was known for her quick humour and outstanding luck at her favourite BINGO hall. Many afternoons and evenings were spent stamping numbers and sharing laughs with her husband, Ken. She lived life with a passion, and was known for doing things the “Shirley way“. People gravitated towards Shirley because she was upbeat and outgoing. Shirley loved to dance, especially square dancing, and was a member of the Dots and Dashers and participated in The World Police and Fire Games in 1997. She also enjoyed many activities with her family and friends, such as travelling and camping. As much as Shirley loved her family, we all knew that her dogs Brandy and Tia were the apples of her eye.
She will be forever loved and missed by her soul mate Ken Sastaunik. Shirley fought a long battle with COPD and survived many years with this illness due to the love and care her husband, Ken gave her.
