SANDO, Kathleen Mary Elsie (Kaye)

June 25, 1940 – January 19, 2014

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kaye with her daughters by her side, after a brave battle with cancer.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis, her daughter and son-in-law Kendra and Kim Koss and their children Kehler and Keenan; her daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Jeff Pfeifer and their children Chad and Bryn; her stepdaughter Lynn Sando and her partner Charlie Thompson and her son Chris Sando and his partner Kaeleigh Tack. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Winnie Bufton.

Kaye was a proud native Calgarian who grew up in Ramsay on Scotsman’s Hill. In 1962 she married her elementary school sweetheart Gary MacLellan and two daughters arrived. Although the union did not last, the friendship endured. In 1980 Kaye and Dennis were married and enjoyed over 30 years at their summer cabin on Kootenay Lake in Boswell, B.C. There they enjoyed a large social circle, were active members of the Kokanee Springs Golf Course, and had the time of their lives on their piece of heaven on the lake with family and friends. Selling their property due to health concerns was a very sad time for Kaye. Kaye’s family was her greatest gift and her grandchildren were the lights in her life. She was so proud of all of them, and enjoyed watching them grow up and participate in their sports and school activities, and was always entertained by their stories at family gatherings.

Special thank yous during this difficult time are numerous. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the RockyView’s Emergency Staff and the crew of Unit 94 where the level of care and compassion was exceptional. Thank you to both Dr. C. Gittens and Dr. B. Stewart who took great care of Kaye during her stint in the hospital. We would also like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Sarcee Hospice and her friends and caregivers Emely Veloso and Melany Abella. Lastly a debt of gratitude to special neighbors Jack and Lorna O’Brien and lifetime friends Sharon Balan and Carol Wells for their love, care and support.

A Celebration of Kaye’s Life will be held at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, (12501 – 14 Street S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 commencing at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Kaye’s memory so that they may purchase much needed palliative care necessities for Sarcee Hospice. If you desire to partner with us in this venture, please contact Kendra or Kelly directly.

In living memory of Kaye Sando, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Jim and Hope Fortune :

It is with great sadness that we learned of Kaye’s passing. We will remember the fun times – at their home on the lake, and golfing with Kaye. I always told her she was so boring to golf with because she always hit the ball straight down the fairway! Not always the farthest but we never had to go looking for her ball in the bush! She was such fun to be with!
Lovingly remembered, Hope and Jim Forune
