SAMPHIRE, Frank Robert (Bob)

January 17, 1935 – August 4, 2014

Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and best friend, Frank Robert (Bob) Samphire, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years at the South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, AB on Monday, August 4, 2014, after succumbing to injuries sustained by a fall.

He was one month shy of celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Helen. Bob was born and raised in Calgary, AB. He was a proud employee of the Calgary Herald for 40 years, where he worked as a printer/graphic artist. He was a very creative man who loved to spend time building models, reading everything from history to comic books, gardening, and going for walks to Carburn Park. He loved to laugh and share a good joke. Family gatherings were a favourite of Bob’s, particularly Christmas time.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen; children Kerrie (Rick) Wigle, Scott Samphire, Kent (Shelley) Samphire, and Cathy (Barry) VanEngelen; grandchildren Chad, Chelsea, Colin, Craig, Alicia, Geoffrey, Sarah, Erin, Courtney, Kyle and Shelby; great-grandchildren Joe and Drake; and sister Barbara Andreychuk. His sister Maxine Osborne and brother David Samphire predeceased Bob earlier this year. A special thank you to the staff at the South Health Campus for their outstanding care and compassion.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at a future date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Bob Samphire, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. June Samphire :

I am so very sorry for your loss. Sometimes there just are no words to express the sadness I feel for your family. I will always remember the laughter, the family get togethers, especially at Christmas, the acting goofy, things like having a picnic at the side of the highway on the way to Banff one day. He will not be forgotten and right now I like to think he is with Dave and Maxine, Vi and Les and laughing with them. RIP Bob……June

  6. Ray and Laurie Meaney :

Auntie Helen, Kerry, Scott, Kent, Kathy and families.

This feels too sad for a man who laughed all of the time.
A man who made us all laugh.

As we grow up and move away, I think it is normal to drift apart
from family sometimes. It was wonderful to visit and share in all of Uncle Bob’s treasures. Ray and I enjoyed the stories, the laughs and Ray enjoyed the sports car rides. We are glad we kept in touch.

    With Love and support.
Ray, Laurie, Jamie and Kaylee Meaney

    Hello Helen:
Harvey and I are truly thinking of you and your family at this time of Bob’s passing. It truly is a sad time for you all but please be assured that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and although we don’t see each other often I remember fondly the great times we had together as kids and the fun and trials we had together. It is hard to believe that you have been married 60 years, how time flies. As you try to remember the fun, smiles and happy times we are thinking of you and wish you well. Love Margaret
