May 23, 1930 – January 17, 2013
William (Bill) Anthony Samek passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the age of 82 years. He succumbed to cancer after a two year battle.
Bill was born in Drumheller and grew up nearby at the coal mining village of Cambria. He moved to Calgary at the age of fourteen where he began an apprenticeship as a welder. He plied this trade for almost fifty years, most notably, with the City of Calgary. Family vacations were spent travelling around Western Canada and the USA in an RV. In later years, Bill and Nel escaped the cold weather and spent time at Bullhead City, Arizona where they established many good friendships with other solar bears. Other winter destinations took them to Brazil and Thailand where they stayed with Ken and Tim.
Bill is survived by his brother Wally; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken (Warunwan), Tim (Suvannee), Rob (Cynthia) and Dennis (Kassandra); grandchildren, Dao, Wyatt, Feem, Faith, William and Paden. He was predeceased by his dear wife, Nellie in 2009.
“We will always cherish our time together and our memories of him.”
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at the Gasoline Alley Mezzanine, Heritage Park on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to join us and share their memories of Bill. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
