SAELENS, Margaret Louise (nee Milne)

September 12, 1942 – October 16, 2012

Margaret was born in Manitou Manitoba and grew up in the town of LaRiviere, Daughter of Robert and Bertha Milne (nee Ridley) Sister to Bob Milne (Gay); Heather Baily(Wally); Allen Milne (Rose Sherwood). Margaret used to teach Sunday school and was a member of Canadian Girls in Training. Growing up she was always up for fun and loved to dance. She married Camille (Cam) Saelens August 14, 1965 and her family grew. She then moved to Calgary and started a family of her own. She had two children Jason Saelens (Shelley), and Amanda Saelens. Margaret was a stay at home mom while her children were young and then went on to work in child care as a day care worker. She later moved on to work as an office administrator. She went back to school completing her GED and Diploma program in Office Administration and Management.

Margaret always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She always loved to visit and stay in touch with her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great great-nieces and nephews. After the loss of her husband Margaret’s health deteriorated but she was still able to work for friends doing filing and data entry. Margaret was a loving caring person who was “Mom” to a lot more children than she gave birth to. Margaret was so happy to welcome her daughter-in-law to the family and was happy to call Shelley one of her kids. Margaret also welcomed a furbaby, Jasma, who was her pride and joy. As time went by she struggled with her health but rarely complained, living her life to the fullest showing great strength and passion for the things and people she loved. But with these health issues, there was good that came of it. Her extended family grew as she received her dialysis treatments at the Northeast Calgary Dialysis Clinic. There she was cared for by some wonderful nurses and support staff. She had a special place in her heart for the social worker Jaz who always seemed to make her feel better and could always put a smile on her face. Margaret always spoke of these people like family.

Sadly Margaret lost her battle with her health on Oct 16 2012 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by many family and friends as well as some wonderful staff at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. In particular the family would like to recognize Dan, the ICU nurse who took such amazing and compassionate care of her and her loved ones in the final hours.

Margaret’s Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. If friends so desire , donations may be made in Margaret’s name to Calgary Health Trust 800, 11012 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary AB T2J 6A5 in Trust of Northeast Calgary Dialysis Clinic or The Kidney Foundation 6007 1A Street SW Calgary AB T2H 0G5. I can’t find the words to say how much we will miss your mom. Her humour, strength and way of tackling every situation life threw her without bitterness or complaint were an example to all of us. She was one special lady.
