RYNING, George Henry

December 18, 1922 – October 12, 2012

George was the son of Henry and Anna Ryning of Rowley, Alberta. He is predeceased by his siblings Marian (Ross), William and John; brothers-in-law Herb Ross and Raoul Duquette; sisters-in-law Thelma Crozier and Juanita Underhill. He is survived by sisters Frances Duquette, Dorothy (Don) Borwick, and Ruth (Albert) Rieb; sisters-in-law Kuni and Betty Ryning; and brother-in-law Robert Underhill. George married Doreen Crozier of Calgary and raised five sons; Douglas, Ken (Edith), Gordon (Shirley), Howard and Brian. He is loved by his grandchildren Alicia, Oliver, Kevin and Jesse. George was born and raised on the Ryning homestead. He worked on the family farm until 1942 then enlisted in the R.C.A.F. He graduated from the Aeronautical Engineering program (PITA/SAIT) in 1949 and worked for six years in the aircraft industry before becoming a junior instructor at SAIT and subsequently retired as Program Supervisor of the Aeronautics Department in 1984. George was passionate about camping, photography, gliding, guitar strumming and VW’s. His community interests found him involved in Boy Scouts with his boys, Winston Heights / Mount View community association, SAIT archives, and the Calgary Aero Space Museum. George and Doreen visited or lived in over 20 countries including four years in Zambia, Africa. He courageously battled Parkinson’s disease from 1997 until his passing. The family wishes to thank the professional services of the medical staff at Rocky View hospital and the Brentwood (Westview) nursing home for their care and concern. Funeral Service and reception will be held at McInnis and Holloway “Chapel of the Bells” (2720 Centre Str. North, Calgary) at 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 21st 2012.
