RYBA , Cecil Charlie

July 9, 1924 – October 15, 2012

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Cec Ryba, who passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital at the age of 88 years.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his best friend and wife of sixty-four years, Grace. He is also survived by sons, Ken (Linda) and Darrell, daughters Marlene Doyle (Jim) and Karen Dubois (Greg), brothers Dutch (Jean) and Jerry (Sandra) and his sister Eileen, grandchildren Justin, Chelsea, Nathan, Andrea, Becky, George and Aidan and great-grandchildren Antoine, Anise and Ella, as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ray and Elsie Van Schaick along with many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Alice, Millie, Edna, Kay, Rose and Mary Agnes.

Cec was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. and grew up during the Great Depression. He learned to play the E-Flat Alto Horn and served as a Bandsman in the Canadian Army, First Battalion King’s Own Rifles, during World War II. He was also a member of the HMCS Tecumseh Band in Calgary.

He moved to Calgary in 1946 and lived in the neighbourhood of Renfrew for fifty-four years. He worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for thirty-seven years and enjoyed many years of retirement. Cec and Grace recently moved to Whitehorn Village and were enjoying living there. He was a long time member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church. He loved to travel and went to New Zealand five times to visit his son Ken and family and many Kiwi friends. Cec and Grace also went on many bus tours with Vacationland Holidays.

Cec loved watching sports, especially football and hockey. He was a very “friendly fellow” and loved to spend time with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Cec’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
