October 24, 1959 – Edmonton, AB
June 19, 2014 – Calgary, AB
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Tom Ruzycki on June 19th, 2014.
The family is grateful for the love and support of family members, friends and the staff at the Sarcee Hospice. His last 17 days were calm, comfortable, and peaceful.
Tom was born in Edmonton to his proud parents Daisy Warwa and Albert Ruzycki. After cheering for the Oilers and Eskimos he moved to Calgary and slowly but surely was converted to a fan of the Flames and Stampeders. Yeah baby!
Tom worked for the Calgary Catholic School Board. His teaching career spanned 33 years. During this time, Tom served Catholic students and their families as a kindergarten to grade 12 teacher, administrator, counsellor, mentor and principal at many schools within the school district. In his many roles Tom positively impacted the lives of hundreds of children and their families as well as many teachers, staff and colleagues.
Tom was well known as a leader who could put vision into action, for his love of children, and for his overwhelming support of his teachers. He was also recognized for his wit and dry sense of humor, which included jokes only a few would love.
Tom will be wholeheartedly missed by his children Ryan (Shannon), Keith, Craig, Branton and Melanie. He will also be dearly missed by his big sister Cindy, his ‘little’ brother Dale (Ronda), Aunt Julia, Aunt Rose and his nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, Tom will be greatly missed by his numerous ‘in-laws’, who all loved him deeply, as well as, his relatives and friends; especially, his mom Daisy and his loving wife Crista.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, Tom has requested donations be directed to any animal rescue site in remembrance of his love for his two ‘fur babies’ Tug and Ally.
