  8. Joe (Valerie) Windle :

In 2010 I had the good fortune of joining Marlene, Rosie Gillard and my wife Valerie for a wonderful day of golf at Sirocco. I played there again last year and I thought frequently of Marlene throughout my round, remembering how nice it was to have spent a day in her company the previous year and hoping that she would overcome what she faced.

Whenever I saw Marlene, and despite her own health concerns, she would always ask about me about how I was doing with my own health issues. I will always remember Marlene for that; her concern, warmth and caring about me and others is a personality trait that we could all attempt to emulate.

Glen, we are very sorry to hear of your family’s loss. We will miss Marlene.

I noticed that I spelled Marleen’s name incorrectly in my post. Somehow I think she would have found it in her heart to forgive me!

  11. Bryan, Brooke, Brody, and Brayden Howland :

Auntie Marleen was one of the most kind, giving, and caring people I’ve ever met. I have only great memories of all the time we spent together – Christmas in Calgary, reunions in Winnipeg, sunny days in Palm Desert, and so many more. She opened her home to me and my colorful group of friends numerous times over the years on our various road trips and always made everyone feel like part of the family. She also shared her home with us in Palm Desert – despite my kids uncanny ability to get sick while there and my mom’s knack for spilling red wine. She was more than my Aunt, she was also my mom’s best friend and she will be deeply missed by everyone she touched. We love you Marleen. Thank you.

  13. A special hello to Jane and your family. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I remember Jane, many times that we talked about family and your regular trips back home. You could always tell how special this was to you by the way you smiled and lit up when talking about Calgary. I hope your time with family can help cover your pain and that all of the good memories will enlighten your next steps ahead. Thinking of you Jane, Susan D. (Maywood School).

    Glen and Family,
We only knew Marleen for a few years but she made such an impact on our lives. Sometimes, if you are very lucky, you meet the exact person that you need at the exact time you need them. Marleen was that person for us. Her optimism, compassion, support and love helped us more than you will ever know while I battled breast cancer last year.
When we think of Marleen, we have a vision of her sunny smile, her sense of fun and her love for her family. She will always reside in our memories and hearts. Our deepest sympathies to you all.
