May 30, 1924 – June 22, 2012
It is with great sadness the family of Gwen Russell of Calgary, announce her passing on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the age of 88 years.
Gwen was born in Victoria, BC a twin, to her sister Gloria. Prior to retirement in Calgary, Gwen, her husband Gerry, who was in the RCAF and their daughters moved extensively throughout Canada. Gwen was a wonderful stay at home mom who was always there with warm cookies, a smile and a hug. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Gwen’s wit and sense of humour made her a pleasure to be around, even in her final days. Her choice in birthday cards always kept us in stitches. We will miss her laugh and her smile.
“God saw you getting tired,
The cure was not to be.
He wrapped you in his loving arms,
And whispered, “Come with Me”.
You suffered much in silence,
Your spirit did not bend,
You faced your pain with courage,
Until the very end.
You tried so hard to stay with us,
Your fight was all in vain,
God took you to his loving home,
And freed you from your pain.
You didn’t deserve what you went through,
And so He gave you rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.”
Gwen is survived by her children, Linda Baillon (Pat), Janet Hodgson (Rick) and Ellen Russell (Mike Ponto and children Nicole and Chris); her grandchildren, Brad Baillon (Corrie), Colin Baillon (Allison) and Amanda Matheson (Michael); great-grandchildren, Talon, Easton, Kennedy, Keegan, Hunter, Bailey, Cheyanne and Wyatt.
