April 10, 1924 – Hillcrest, AB
June 30, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Elsie Lucille Rush of Calgary, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the age of 90 years.
Elsie was born in Hillsdown, AB on April 10, 1924. She had one sister Mildred (Donaghy) Caswell. Elsie married Ernest Lincoln Rush on August 14, 1944 and they had four children: Theresa (Rush) (Gary) Seibel, Larry (Shan) Rush, Edwin (Wendy) Rush and Lyle (Ellen) Rush; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Elsie is also survived by her sister-in-law Peggy (Rush) Rohl.
Elsie and Ernest were married sixty-seven years when he passed away. Before they retired, they traveled central Alberta, Yukon and parts of the Northwest Territories for Ernest’s work. Elsie did the driving because Ernest was registered blind and made his living tuning and repairing pianos. Elsie was always there to help with the repairs, but there were many long hours sitting in the car waiting for Ernest. These were the times she embroidered pillow cases, dresser scarves and pictures. Later, she did more knitting than stitching. She made beautiful sweaters, but the double-knit afghans became her passion. She donated many of them to the CNIB Happy Hour. Her afghans won her many awards at various competitions, including the Calgary Stampede.
Elsie has made her home at Hillside Manor at Bethany Care Centre since January 2007. She will be missed by family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Bethany Care Centre (916 – 18 A Street N.W.) on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank the Southwood Hospice for their compassionate care in her final days.
