RUNNING RABBIT – Horton Joseph Jr.

October 20, 1989 – September 18, 2010

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Horton Joseph Running Rabbit Jr. on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the age of 20 years.

J.R. was born on October 20, 1989 to Horton & Cecile. J.R. was an avid, dedicated young athlete participating in hockey, track and field, golf, baseball, basketball, and cross country. His hockey career began at the age of five with Pre-novice and continuing on to play with the Foothills Bison AA Midget Hockey team. His accomplishments include holding track and field records at Bassano School from 2004-2007, MVP for basketball, cross-country & track and field. He made the Alberta Summer Games and Provincials in X-country and Track and field in 2005 and 2006. J.R. represented Team Alberta in the North American Indigenous Games traveling to Denver, Colorado in 2006 for Track & Field and 2008 to Cowichan, B.C. for Basketball. His most recent passion was with golf at which he was exceptionally gifted, which was shared with Nevin. He continued to train by working out and going for daily 5 km runs.

In 2006, he was recognized as a Youth Role Model for Siksika Nation in the category of Athletic Achievement. J.R. graduated from Bassano School in 2008. After graduation he was employed with Siksika Plumbing for 2 1/2 years of dedicated service. He completed his first year apprenticeship technical training at S.A.I.T. in plumbing & gasfitting. He planned to attend his second year at SAIT in November of 2010. J.R. was very kind hearted and generous, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was extremely close to his brother and sisters; whose bond was unbreakable. These four always had each other to go to and would always cover for one another. He made friends wherever he went and was known for his outrageous laugh and fist pumping techno music. X-box live has lost one of the greatest sharp shooters in the world of Halo.

We have been truly blessed to have had JR in our lives, he was greatly loved and will never be forgotten by family and friends.
