January 20, 1928– September 9, 2009
Henry Rozsa of Calgary, passed away after a long and valiant battle with ALS at the age of 81 years, on Wednesday, September 9, 2009.
He was born January 20, 1928, in Timosoara, Romania to Hungarian parents. In 1937 at the age of 9, Henry immigrated to Canada with his mother Julianna. His father, also Henry, had arrived previously in Canada in 1930. As a teenager, Henry lived and worked in Carbon, AB for the Buyer family which helped him to become completely integrated as a Canadian. He also became a member of the Carbon Baptist Church through the influence of the Buyer family, and it was there that he met his future wife, Erma (nee Sayler). They came to Calgary, where Henry worked for Mannix Construction Company. They were married on May 31, 1951 in Carbon but made their home in Calgary. He worked for various employers but was always interested in the field of mechanics and the oil industry. He soon leased and operated a Gulf Service Station in Calgary in the Fairview District. Upon his retirement from the service station, he was recognized by the Gulf Oil Company with an award for long service. He then went to work for James Propane for a number of years before retiring completely. Henry was a devoted Christian and active member of Grace Baptist Church in Calgary.
He leaves to mourn his wife and best friend, Erma, his beloved daughter Marilyn and her husband Charles Malinsky, his brother Roy Rozsa and sister Irene Toth. Henry was a gregarious people person, and will be dearly remembered by the many friends he made in all his different activities and endeavours.
