  3. Cathy and Brandt Miller :

    Dear Gord and Jessica,

We are saddened and shocked by the news of Gail’s recent passing. We heard from Leslie a few days ago of your abrupt return from Baja, but had no idea that the situation was so immediately dire. For many years, we enjoyed you and Gail’s hospitality at your home & at Edgewater and I have many fond memories of the many times spent with you and your many interesting friends and workmates.

We are glad that you and Gail succeeded in having several years of retirement in Baja. We don’t know the timing of the photo of Gail which appeared in the Calgary Herald, but it is just how we remember her .

We will miss Gail and remember her with great affection,

    Cathy and Brandt Miller

    Dear Gordon and Jessica
I feel so fortunate to have spent time with such a wonderful person. Gail was always so positive and always made me feel loved and appreciated. She was very lucky to have such a great family by her side (both of you) during her life with us. Her beautiful smile, her willingness to help others, her friendly gestures and her joy for life will definitley be missed by all. Thinking of you during this difficult time.

Mere words can’t express the sorrow we feel.
Nor can we imagine your grief.
We only pray that as time passes by
And memories stay fresh in your mind,
That you will, over time and with much love from your friends,
Heal: and never forget and always remember, your true friend and love, Gail.

I know we never and always will. Love

  12. Lynn and Maurice Korooniak :

    Dear Gord and Jessica

I will treasure the memory of a dear friend I have known for over 50 years. We were very close as teenagers and young women. Gail introduced me to her love of art and she insisted Maurice and I go to London for our honeymoon.

We are proud to say that we introduced you to Gail – on that fateful TGIF evening. After marriage and living so far apart, our visits together with your family were too few, but great fun.

This past September the reunion with Gail and highschool friends,Joan, Linda and Nancy at our cottage is a very special memory. Along with the laughter, she spoke proudly of her daughter and husband and her own career accomplishments.
    We shall miss her forever.

We, too, will miss her forever.

We are thinking about you in this time of your loss.

We were looking forward to spending time with you at our Christmas party and were shocked to hear about Gail’s illness. It all seems so sudden.
She was a very special lady. The word “NICE” is what everyone in our family say about Gail. She never complained or said a bad thing about anyone.
She always made us feel welcome in your house, was thoughtful, brought a present for Charlie and was always interested in what we were doing.

  20. Catherine and Lorne Rosenblood :

Words cannot express the shock both Lorne and I felt upon hearing of Gail’s sudden illness, subsequent departure from Baja and then even more suddenly her passing. All so totally unexpected and so very very sad! She was such a lovely delightful person and we so enjoyed having her as our Baja friend and neighbor. She and Lucy passed by our house each day on their walks and we frequently chatted over the garden gate. We were chatting and laughing just a few days before you left and she seemed so well and happy! She truly loved Baja. We know you have many treasured memories of your life together to comfort you in your grief and you will miss her. Gord, we do hope you will return soon to your Baja home, friends, and neighbors.
With much love and heartfelt sympathy, Catherine and Lorne Rosenblood

  21. Gerry and Sherri Gallant :

A written hug for you, Gord.
It is still so un-imaginable to think of Gail being gone….
We hadn’t been in touch for several years and last winter (2012-13) we decided we should go to Baja for Christmas. Well, we had a wonderful 3 weeks getting caught up with you and Gail, and with your friends from near and far. And then you came across Canada on your long awaited trip, and stayed with us for most of a week in PEI. Great time of course! Gail, at both times was her generous, kind, friendly self, always the hostess in her own home and very helpful and easy to be around in ours. The bonds of friendship (started in Yellowknife in the 80’s) were strengthened in those 2 visits, and we loved spending time with you both (and Lily!). When we spoke to you on the phone recently, “providential” was the word you used…….How ironic and perfect that you finally made that trip across the country….and that we had gotten back in touch at Christmas. All the more bittersweet now…Gail was a wonderful person, very giving, loving, genuine and generous, and I’m sure you are missing her evermore each day. Our hearts ache for you and Jessica….but we know that Gail’s incredible strength will be with you both through your next difficult times.
We look forward to seeing you again soon, Gord and being able to give you some real hugs.

    Gerry and Sherri

  22. Norah & Doug Patriquin :

    Dear Gord and Jess,

As we wrote you after Gail’s death, she was a wonderful, bright spark who will be missed by so many people. We have many delightful memories of Gail and you Gord, from Ottawa days, then Yellowknife and on to your family home in Calgary with Jess. Our visits to Calgary were always special and we will treasure our times together.

After you were born, Jess, we asked Gail whether she and Gord had gone to prenatal classes, which were all the rage then (and we also wondered how Gord would have managed them). Oh, no, she said, we didn’t do them–but I read a lot about it! And clearly the delivery was most successful. We have enjoyed many accounts of your accomplishments related by your proud and loving Mum and Dad.

When you and Gail got together, Gord, it seemed like you had found the perfect person to change your bachelor existence into something much more complete and satisfying. And it evidently was, for both of you. Having done all you could to keep this ending away, it happened. There’s a great hole in your life. You must weep for what has gone, but do take comfort in your memories of Gail’s sweet spirit and the many friends who loved her so much, as we do you and Jess.

We are thinking of you with sadness and love,

    Doug and Norah
