Condolence Messages

  1. Rose Heerschop :

I just saw Dr. Rowat’s obit today, with great sadness. He was my Dr. From the age of 15. I am now 66. He helped me through some very difficult times when I was a 16 year old runaway. I will never forget his caring about what happened to me. Bless him.

  2. David Rowat :

We could sit and talk for hours, about nothing yet about everything, exactly the conversations that a father and son should have, and exactly the same conversations I hope to share with my children. As I grew older and moved further away the conversations became less frequent, but we could always pick up where we left off, which was no where in particular. We shared stories, talked about life experiences and discussed our personal beliefs and values, but mostly just listened and learned about each other. I can still see him sitting back comfortably, television remote in one hand and diet pepsi nearby, his eyes flashing subtly as he talked. And I can still hear his words, his voice deep and gentle, his tone assertive and compassionate. I wish I could have just one more talk with him, but I know it doesn’t work that way, so instead I will just be thankful that I have this memory.

  9. Stephanie Brown :

I have still not fully absorbed the fact that Floyd is gone. Right up until the end, he presented as being full of life. Floyd always treated me like a daughter, accepting me in to his family with open arms. And what a family! I loved his storytelling, particularly about his days growing up on the farm. He appreciated the small things in life, like the taste of fresh (unpasteurized!) milk right from the cow, or the cream that was as thick as butter skimmed off the top of the milk. Floyd and I shared a love of food, and my first time attending a Rowat family gathering was a sight to remember! Above all, aside from his kind heart, incredible generosity, and sharp wit, I will always value the role he played as being a grandfather to my two children. He adored Madeleine and Aidan so much, and treated them like gold. I know he is somewhere beaming with pride over “Master Aidan” and Madeleine, who will grow up with pictures, mementos, and memories of this wonderful man. My heart is with all of those who knew and loved Floyd.

Sheila, I was sorry to hear about Floyds death. It was so nice to see you two at Doug Milne’s funeral. I did not know Floyd was ill. My wife reminded me you two were the only couple that invited us over after I married Jorunn. You brought Willam a book to which you scratched to have different smells. Love Bill Grisdale

    Sheila and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of Floyd on the few occasions we spent together… most especially at Steph and Dave’s wedding in B.C. and a beautiful Christmas dinner at your home in Calgary. I will remember him for his humor and wit, his love of family, his kindness and hospitality to me and the way in which he welcomed Steph into your family. I know how much he loved his grandchildren and I am sure that Steph and Dave will ensure that his memory is instilled in them forever.
