Rouse, “Mil” Mildred

ROUSE, Mildred “Mil” Lois (nee Young)
October 17, 1936– Banff, AB
November 28, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Mildred “Mil” Lois Rouse passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the age of 77 years, after a brief illness.

Mil was born in Banff, AB where she grew up and married Jim in 1959. They moved to Edmonton to complete Jim’s engineering degree, after which they moved to Berkley, CA for his master’s degree and then to Ottawa for Jim’s early work career, but returned home to Calgary as soon as they could to raise their family.

Mil loved the special events of a year like birthdays and holidays, and was especially fond of Christmas. Mil was an outstanding knitter who created masterpieces for her family, and each stitch was crafted with love. She was a member of the Shawnee Slopes Golf Club until it closed, and was active in her church. Mil and Jim were active members of the Stampede City Model A Ford Club. Her greatest joy was her family and especially her grandchildren in her later years.

Mil is survived by her daughter Lauren; son Gord (Sheri); grandchildren James and Eva Rouse; brother Raymond Young; nieces, Kathy (Rueben) MacIntyre and Liane (Rich) Ralston; and nephews Raymond Young, Gary Young and Mark (Elaine) Teubert. Mil was predeceased by her husband Jim of forty-eight years in 2007.

Funeral Services will be held at Southwood United Church (10690 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. Hennie van Niekerk :

I got to know Jim and Mil Rouse in 2001, while sharing a house with their son, Gord. I am originally from South Africa and did not have any family in Calgary at that time. Jim and Mil welcomed me in their house and I cannot say enough about the kindness, friendliness and warmth I felt during my visits to their home. Mil also baked some of the best burnt pumpkin pies in the whole world….!

Gord, Lauren and the rest of the family: I am so sorry for your loss. Wish I could be there, but please know you are remembered in our prayers and thoughts.

    Hennie, Engela & Christiaan
