ROTHEL, William “Bill”

February 13, 1942 – August 15, 2014

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Bill Rothel beloved husband of Blanche, on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the age of 72 with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born on February 13, 1942 in Natal, BC and moved to Calgary at a very young age. His love for cattle began at the age of 11 when he bought his first cow. He worked for Fish Creek Excavating as an owner/operator for 39 years until his retirement in 2011.

He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him; his loving wife Blanche, children Melody, Mike (Mary), Tanya (Gerry) as well as grandchildren Lindsay (Brant), Melissa, Cody (Maddy) and Tyler; his brothers Barry (Bonnie) Rothel of Nanton and Gary (Mary) Bolton of Vernon.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Condolence Messages

  1. Susan Mayert(Hoffert) :

    Uncle Bill was such an incredible man and such a pleasure to be around. He was my Favourite Uncle. I remember coming out to Priddis with Aunty Monica when the bulls were being um done, and the steers dehorned, and I was afraid to watch. Uncle Bill picked me up and stood me in front of them and made me watch. It was an experience I’ll never forget. Then the dancing began and I saw him on the dance floor crawling around, and I said what are you doing, and he dropped his teeth and was looking for them lol. Uncle Bill was the first one that got me to try battered bbq beef, which after I ate it, told me it was, yuk, my first prairie oyster. You have my deepest sympathies. He will truly be missed by me and everyone whose lives he touched.

  7. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bill. I am Robert Rothel’s daughter. Uncle Johnny was dad’s brother. He sounds like a man I would have enjoyed knowing. We too love horses and cattle and he looked like my dad so it was sad to see what we missed.

  9. Leslie Applegate :

    To Blanche & Family,

    I’m so very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. He was a great guy and had a heart of gold. I got the pleasure of giving him a few of his signature haircuts! He would come into the salon with his big smile and happy outlook on life. He gave me words of encouragement years ago when I had to face a heath crisis of my own. He always asked how I was doing every time I saw him and that meant so much. Bill is going to be missed and I send my deepest condolences to the family.

    Rest in peace Bill oxox
