ROSS, Phyllis Marjorie (nee Adams)

August 22, 1909 – December 28, 2012

Phyllis Ross, our blithe spirit, died peacefully at the Agape Hospice on December 28, 2012 at the age of 103 years.

Two world wars, the Great Depression, a Spanish flu and huge advancements in technology; Phyllis has seen these and more. She maintained her quirky, loveable sense of humour until she died. She was heard to say, “They say the good die young, I wonder what I did that was so bad that I’m still here”. She greeted and met people with enthusiasm and warmth. The accompanying picture was taken on the day of her 103rd Birthday. She always looked amazing.

She will be missed by her Bridge and Spite-and-Malice partner, daughter-in-law Trudy Ross, her grandson Michael Ross, her niece and nephews, Jill and Bruce Buchan, Ted Wyatt, her eight step-grandchildren and eight great step-grandchildren. She loved them all and she was so easy to love. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Arnett in 1965, her only son Grant in 2010 and her special friend Archie Coulter in 2009.

A special informal memorial tea will be held in the “Rec Room” at Big Hill Lodge, 98 Carolina Drive, Cochrane, AB on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 3:00 pm to celebrate Phyllis’ life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Phyllis Ross, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE. Telephone: (403) 932-4740.

  2. Donna MacIntyre :

On behalf of Maud Chapman and our family we extend our condolences to the Ross family. Maud developed a friendship with Phyllis while she lived in the Senior’s Residence at the Colonel Belcher. Although they both spent their adult years living in Parkdale they had never crossed paths until they both lived at the Senior’s Residence. Phyllis was always happy and warm in her greetings. Her friendship will be very much missed.

  3. My condolences to Phyllis family, I was so blessed to have the opportunity to meet her. It was always a pleasure to see Phyllis at her home at the Big Hill Lodge. She was warm, witty and always had a smile and a little twinkle in her eyes. We all need to take a page from her book of life as she had great knowledge and much spirit. She will be a very bright star above and truly I am blessed to have had the good fortune to have meet her, she will finally be at peace.
