ROSE, Hilda Alice “Beryl” (nee Luxton) Frape

Beryl was born May 10, 1917 to Lilias and Thomas Luxton in Cardiff, Wales and came to Toronto, Canada as a child. She passed away peacefully February 14, 2012 in her 95th year with her family by her side.

Bird, as she was fondly known to many, loved bridge, music and telling her stories. Throughout her life she was feisty, fiercely independent, always polite and maintained her keen sense of humour. She was an active volunteer in her earlier years and travelled extensively later in life.

Beryl is survived by her son Norman (Linda); daughter Pamela (Jack) Schneider; much loved grandchildren, Eric (Nicola) Frape, Andrea Goslin, Jack (Jessica) Schneider, Mark (Sarah) Schneider, Julie (Neil) Carey; and greatly cherished great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew, Will, Cole, Charlotte, Isobel, Thomas and Remington. Beryl was predeceased by her husband Vincent Frape in 1980 after thirty-nine years of marriage. She was married to Hugh Rose in 1984 until his passing in 1997.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Georges On-The-Hill Anglican Church (4600 Dundas Street West Toronto, ON) on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of your choice.

In living memory of Beryl Rose, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Jackie and I are saddened by the news, but often think back fondly on the wonderful times we spent with Bird, and on the terrific person (and storyteller) that she was. She did have a long and good life, so there is much to celebrate.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these days, and we will be there in spirit on Tuesday. No longer a need for a ‘dummy’ at that bridge table in heaven — Jack, Jean and Vin finally have their table full!

    Condolences and Warm Wishes,
    Chuck

  2. Linda & Jim Forrest :

    Dear Norm, Linda & Family,

Linda and I would like to express our deep condolences on the passing of your mom, Norm. Your mom and my mom were so alike in the things they enjoyed. She must have been so proud of her wonderful family. We are in Wilkesboro, NC on our way to Hilton Head Island or we would certainly have attended your mom’s service.

    Sincerely,
    Jim & Linda

  4. Beryl was one of the kindest people I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing. I first met Beryl when I started working at Lake Bonavista Village, I had known of her through Andrea, who I used to work with. Beryl always had a story to tell and did it with such humour, she would have all that listened laughing until we were crying. She never wanted to bother anyone and was always so appreciative of help you would offer her. There are still many people at Lake Bonavista Village that remember her with great fondness. Keep your memories close as she will only be as far away as your heart.
    God Bless.

  8. Lois and Dan Gorrell :

While greatly saddened by her passing, most of us could only wish we had as full a life and as much to celebrate as Beryl. What a wonderful woman, friend, mother, grandmother. business person and one-liner. Amid the tears I know there will also be great laughter in remembering her–she had a gift of seeing the humor in life. Our best to all of you at this sad time. Wish we could be with you.
