ROSE, David Keith

June 23, 1949 – Gander, Newfoundland
January 9, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to David, beloved husband of Anne Rose (nee Martin) of Calgary, passed away on January 9, 2015 at the age of 65 years after a courageous battle with cancer.

David was born in Gander, Newfoundland and graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Survey Engineering. He moved to Calgary, from Ottawa, 23 years ago to work at Geological Survey of Canada. He retired from GSC in 2007 and spent 5 years working in IT at Shaw. We have many cherished memories of David in his favourite places; the mountains and by the water. When a loved one becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.

He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by Anne, his wife of 31 years; his daughters Jessica and Brenna; as well as his extended family and friends.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY(Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, donations in David’s name may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation to help fund research; or gifts of service to the cancer community.

In living memory of David Rose, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

  2. Nancy and Wayne Rose :

We were shocked and saddened to hear of David’s passing. We had not realized he was battling cancer which only goes to show we are guilty of not keeping in touch often enough. All our conversations about wanting to go out west to visit mean nothing now….time passes so quickly and there are never any guarantees about how many more summers we will have. Our prayers go out to the whole family. We didn’t have the chance to spend much time with David but he was the kind of person everyone loves and feels comfortable with. We still talk about getting “snowed in” in Gander and having lots of time to talk when the power was out. We will miss you David, and the visit with you that we will never have.

  3. Pam and Kathy :

Our condolences to Anne, Jessica and Brenna. We will miss having chats with David in the yard where he would often speak with great fondness and pride about his daughters. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the whole family. David was a good high school friend. We traveled a lot together during track meets. He was heck of a runner, with a work ethic second to none. May you rest in peace

  6. I just heard about David’s passing and offer my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I knew David during the summers at Johnston’s Point (as with Gail) and we spent a lot of time together there racing our row boats, sailing, exploring, working (digging up tree roots mostly) or simply getting into trouble. David saved my life when we tried to swim across a channel together and I will naturally never forget that.
