Tomas, beloved husband of Adela Leon Munoz of Palma del Rio, Spain, passed away on April 12, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
Tomas was born in San Juan del Puerto, Huelva, Spain. He earned a degree in Nursing Science from the University of Seville in 1945, a diploma in Accounting from Huelva Provincial School in 1948, and
a degree in Nursing Administration from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 1965. He started his career in 1945 in the Provincial Hospital of Huelva, where he worked as Practicante (clinical nurse) until 1958. He also worked as a professional interpreter in Huelva from 1952 to 1955. In 1958 he joined the Department of Finance with the U.S. Air Force, as a comptroller, on the Moron Air Base near Seville, Spain.
In 1963 he moved to Canada and settled in Dartmouth N.S., where he worked at the Nova Scotia Mental Hospital. He held a number of positions including head nurse and administrative supervisor until 1981, when he moved to Saskatoon and worked as nursing supervisor at the Regional Psychiatric Centre.
He was a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge of St. Mark in Nova Scotia, Vice President of the Inter-Atlantic Inventors Club and a member of the Halifax Gun club.
Tomas is survived by his wife Adela; his beloved children Diego Romero (Joy) and Maria Dorey (Douglas); grandchildren Tomas Romero (Nerissa), Judith Romero, Rachel Romero, Trevor Dorey, and Emily Dorey; as well as great grandchildren Isabel and Ryder Romero.
The family would like to give thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Unit 32 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Papa’ (Tomas) loved and enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Children’s hospital in Calgary, 288 Shaganappi Trail NW, T3B 6A8.
Funeral Services will be held St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 19th Avenue N.W.), on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
