ROBOTTOM, Joan

Vera Joan Alberta Robottom (nee Boyce) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the age of 101 years.

Joan was born and raised in Calgary, and attended Calgary Normal School. For many years she was employed with Eaton’s and worked at the family owned Parkhill Grocery Store. During WW II she was a sergeant and a proud member in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (Signals) and was stationed in London, England, where she was fondly known as “Torchy”. She married Thomas (Bud) Robottom in 1949. She was an active member of The Order of The Eastern Star, and was a Past Matron of Unity Chapter.

Joan will be lovingly remembered by her three children Susan, Brenda, David (Bonnie); five grandchildren, Darren, Stephen, Stephanie, Gregory (Melanie), Jason (Jenna); and four great-grandchildren, Cody, Zane, Yann and Calla.

In following Joan’s wishes, no formal Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan’s name may be made directly to the Calgary Foundation 700, 999 – 8th Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2R 1J5 www.thecalgaryfoundation.org. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A very warm thank you to the staff at Beverly Care Centre Glenmore for their outstanding care, including Drs. P. and D. Gladman. Family would also like to acknowledge Dr. J. Safran, her doctor for many years.
