ROBERTSON, Kathleen (Kay)

February, 23, 1919 – Kingston, Surrey, England
September, 7, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Kay Robertson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the age of 95.

Born in Surrey, England on February 23, 1919, Kay met and married Leonard Robertson of Hazlet, SK, while he was stationed in England during the war in 1943. Kay immigrated with her son David in 1945 as a war bride to begin her new life in Saskatchewan. In 1950 Leonard moved the family to Milk River, AB where he worked at the local grain elevator and Kay started working at Archie’s General Store. The family moved to Calgary in 1963 where they would remain. In 1966 Kay began her career with CO-OP and would retire in 1984.

Kay filled her retirement with her many passions, War Bride Reunions, CO-OP ladies lunches, gardening and church gatherings. She was a regular at the Royal Canadian #1 Legion where she has been a member for over twenty years. Where ever Kay went she embraced life, her spirit was infectious. She was able to make anyone laugh even through hard times.

Kay will be sadly missed by all who knew her but especially her surviving family; her sons, David (Ruth) Robertson of Milk River, AB; Paul (Lynne) Robertson of Victoria, BC; and special friend Dawn (Keith) Thompson of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Brad (Connie) Robertson of Milk River, Scott (Lisa) Robertson of Camrose, AB, Stacey Robertson (Jaret Sprott) of Calgary, AB, Chantelle Weedmark of Airdrie, AB, Christina Deen of Victoria, BC; Matthew Thompson (Patrick Moskwa) of Calgary, AB, and Daniel (Nicole) Thompson of Calgary, AB; great-grandchildren, Deagan, Garren & Torra Robertson of Milk River, AB, Denton & Shaye Robertson of Camrose, AB and Owen Thompson of Calgary, AB. Kay was predeceased by her husband of forty-two years Leonard Robertson; son Colin Robertson; and parents William & Winifred Lockyer.

Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Royal Canadian #1 Legion, 116 7 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0H5.

Condolence Messages

  1. So sorry to hear of the passing of Kay. She was a GREAT LADY and touched the lives of many.
I had the good fortune of having her as a boss at the downtown co-op where she made work fun on a daily basis with her wit and humour. God speed Kay, it was a pleasure knowing you.

  3. Susan and Don MacDonald :

How can one express how important a person is to you? There is so much to a person that is given with each word and action that it is almost impossible to say, “I miss you.” There is a longing and a wish that they could be called, or held, or laughed with. I know there are many with open arms who are on the other side, who have waited expectantly for this life affirming lady, that while we miss her, she will not be forgotten. Kay is part of all of the lives of those who knew her, and she will not be forgotten.

Condolences to all of Kay’s family.

  7. Barbara Elliott :

I’m so sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you
I am a war brides daughter and went to most functions with my mother Esther.
Kay was always so happy, so funny. I so looked forward to see her in the comedy skits they did. Such humor, humor that brought you to tears. At the luncheons, I would always get up and get tea or coffee for the ladies while they did their back and forth humor. Kay would say there’s my girl and give me a hug
    Truly an amazing woman.
See you in paradise Kay. R.I.P

Dear Auntie Kay will be missed by all. She was someone who lit up your life with her smile and wonderful stories. No one loved their family and friends as much as she did. I know that she will light up the heaven above and entertain all she meets there.
