ROBERTSON, James Garry

March 30, 1937– August 26, 2014

Garry loving husband of the late Mary-Lou passed away at the age of 77 years after a lengthy illness.

Garry was born and lived all his life in Calgary. He played junior football with the Calgary Broncs later to marry Mary-Lou and start his long career as a Chartered Accountant. He worked for Price Waterhouse until spreading his wings in private practice retiring in 2012. Garry loved to volunteer and contributed to many organizations in his lifetime such as Boy Scouts of Canada, Handi Bus, Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and Southern Alberta Pioneers. Garry received 50 years of service recognition from the Stampede. Garry spent many years as a member of the downtown Rotary Club. As a Rotarian his most memorable moments were his involvement in the Rotary show for the President’s ball in which he performed and produced a video production. Garry most loved to meet new people and reminisce about the many happy and comical adventures of his life. Garry could tell a wonderful story. He was larger than life. He loved to laugh and make everyone else laugh. He went camping with his family at every opportunity. Garry loved sports and dogs. Garry was passionate about government leadership and worked many elections. He was a regional director of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party for many years.

Garry will be sadly missed by all who knew him but especially his surviving family Jim and Leslie (Jeff Slof), David Sharman (Lori, Kris, Shaun, and Ryan), and special cousin Roger Ring (Phyllis). Garry is predeceased by his wife of 55 years Mary-Lou, his daughter Janet, and parents Grace and Duncan Robertson.

A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at Saint David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Cr NW Calgary) Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friend so desire, a memorial tribute may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 -29 St NW Calgary AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 403-521-3433.     I have known Garry for over 20 years and have always been guided by his honesty, integrity and sense of humour. He will be sorely missed amongst his PC friends and all of the other volunteer groups that he led.
    You all should be very proud, in this time of sadness, of the great gifts that Garry gave to those around him. Bless you all and may you all find comfort in the great example that he gave to all of us.

Bill , in particular, remembers the many exhilarating times he and Garry had sailing in the high winds which arrived most every day at 5pm.
