February 12, 1925– Glasgow, Scotland
August 18, 2014 – Calgary, AB
It is with profound sadness we say goodbye to Pat. Born Patricia Mary Cunningham in Glasgow, Scotland, she grew up in Mozambique where she met and married the love of her life, Sybren Riphagen (Rip) before moving to South Africa where they raised their family. In 1984, they immigrated to Canada to be closer to their sons and their families. She loved her adopted country of Canada but, first and foremost, she was a proud Scot.
Pat was predeceased by her loving husband Rip in 2002. She is survived by her sons Brian (Sue) of Kelowna and Derek (Colleen) of Longview; and by her grandchildren: Alan (Joyce) and her first great-grandchild, Zoe, in Toronto; Neil (Jenn) in Victoria; and Craig, Kirsten and Mark. She remained very proud of all her grandchildren and loved to be involved in each of their life events and accomplishments.
Health issues were an incredible challenge for Pat for most of her life. She confronted this with grace, dignity and an iron will to prevail, continuing to confound the medical profession with her determination no matter how daunting the issue nor how gloomy the prognosis might be. This continued into her final days and her desire to preserve her independence.
A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
