August 24, 1943 – February 13, 2013
It is with great sadness that Ruth’s family announces her passing.
Ruth was born in Montreal and spent her early years in Regina. Ruth graduated from Scott Collegiate High School in 1961. In 1965 she married Gary and the following year they relocated to Calgary.
Ruth was a loving, caring, and dedicated person to her family and friends. During Ruth’s secretarial and office administration career she was employed with various organizations and retired from Beta Machinery Analysis Ltd. in 2005. She was an active member of Foothills Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for thirty-five years. Ruth was a passionate bridge player and a moderately enthusiastic golfer. She also spent many years as a respected and feared judge for Synchro Canada. Ruth loved socializing with her many dear friends, reading, and giving disapproving looks. Ruth and Gary enjoyed traveling in retirement both domestically and abroad. Ruth took great pride in her children and grandchildren, whom she enjoyed trying to boss around. We will miss her sharp humour, sage advice, compassion, and tolerance.
Ruth is fondly remembered by her husband, Gary; her three daughters, Deanna (Darren) Sartison, Krista Ring, and Leslie (Chris) Ring-Adams; her sister Jeanne (Timothy) White; and her five special grandchildren, Piper, Lily, Lachlan, Caleb and Livia. Ruth is further survived by her mother-in-law, Caroline; her brother-in-law Fred (Judy); her Aunt Alma of Regina, together with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth joins her mother Ida and stepfather Harold Forsythe in the arms of our Saviour and has plans to sing in heaven’s choir.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations may be made directly to the A.L.S. Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Suite 250, 4723 – 1 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2G 4Y8, www.alsab.ca or a charity of your choice. The family also wishes to extend sincere thanks to Jane Rivest and the ALS Society, the doctors and staff at the Calgary ALS and Motor Neuron Disease Clinic and the caregivers at Carewest Sarcee Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church (3104 – 34th Avenue N.W.) on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive guests and messages of condolences beginning at 12:00 p.m. Online condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
