RIDER, Lorinda Carol

October 2, 1961 – November 27, 2012

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Lorinda Carol (Maman or Hîhâ pâ) was suddenly called home by the Creator on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.

Maman was born in High River, AB and raised at Eden Valley where she received her education. A traditional Nakoda woman, she believed in and honored Nakoda values, customs and spiritual practices, attending and participating in various ceremonies throughout her life. In her youth, she was a fancy shawl dancer and liked to dance and sing at powwows and ceremonies. She was also a rodeo fan and barrel racer who was raised on the family ranch at Eden Valley. Throughout her life, Maman worked in different capacities once becoming a gravel truck driver. One of her favourite times was to sit and drink herbal teas while doing her beadwork. Like her sisters, she was a traditional woman who mastered the art of tanning hides, slicing dried meat and other cultural activities at a very young age.

Mourning her loss are her sisters Dedrienne and Jackie (Randy); nieces and nephews aunts, Joyce, Dora, Ella and Tina ; uncles, Paul (Verda), Floyd and Derek, Bruce (Dianna), sister and special friend April and Germaine; and extended relatives. Mamam will be missed by her granddaughter, Keanna who she was raising and was the light of her life. Maman was predeceased by her loving father Donald Rider and her mother Evangeline Rider; her brothers Donald Jr. and Gregson; her grandparents Leo Rider and Vera Daniels and Mary Mark.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Donald Benjamin, Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2, 2012.

Funeral Services will be held at the Morley Gymnasium, Morley, AB on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11:00am. Graveside Service to follow at Bearspaw Cemetery, Morley, AB.
