April 14, 1926 – December 13, 2009
Beloved mother and grandmother, Dora Richardson passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on Sunday, December 13, 2009.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Mike) Banning; her sons, Colin and Earl; and her six grandchildren, Aaron Richardson, Sonya Richardson, Cameron (Jenn) Banning, Jeremy (Ade) Banning, Jennifer (Darsey Godwin) Banning, and Megan (Bryce Burgeson) Banning. Also mourning her loss are her dearest friend, Beth Johnson and son Mark; her “other” family Linda Sharp, David and Alexandra Martinuik; and her nieces, Doris Draeger (and family) and Anne Herchka. She was predeceased by her husband Alec and her son Brian.
Dora was born in 1926 in Fort a la Corne, Saskatchewan and lived most of her life in Sunnyside in Calgary. Lately, she was a resident of Spruce Lodge where she rarely missed a bingo game. Dora was a committed volunteer, giving her time to the Bethany Care Centre Tuck Shop for over twenty-five years and she donated numerous handcrafted items to various charities. She played a mean game of darts, particularly in the 264 Legion Dart League and she was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed watching hockey, football and curling, cheering on the Flames and Stampeders in particular. Dora was a Master Knitter and skilled crocheter and her family and friends are blessed with a wonderful legacy of mitts, scarves, afghans, tablecloths and other projects with which to remember her. She loved attending her knitting group; she loved to travel, particularly to the Scandinavian countries; she loved jewellery, especially earrings and rings. Most of all, she loved living, which she did with gusto and optimism and joy and lots of laughter.
