September 19, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Harvey Benjamin Richards of Calgary, passed away at South Health Campus on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
Harvey was born June 3, 1926 on the family farm near Sunnybrook, AB. A long-term employee of Trans Alta, Harvey began his career with Farm Electric in about 1943, at age seventeen, and was continuously employed with that company through its evolution to Calgary Power and eventually Trans Alta. Throughout his career, Harvey was transferred to various locations within the province of Alberta, including Tomahawk, Coaldale, Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary. He retired from Trans Alta in 1981. Harvey was a member of the Leduc West Antique Society, TARA (Trans Alta Retiree Association) and the Independent Order of Foresters.
An exceptional mechanic, wood and metal worker, Harvey was capable of inventing the necessary tools to get the job done. Possibly one of the first true recyclers, there was very little that he could not remake or re-tool to another good use.
Harvey is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Ruby M. and Ernest Kvarnberg of Leduc, AB. He was predeceased by his loving wife Edith (nee Miller) in 2006, father Benjamin M. Richards in 1972, and his mother Winona M. (nee Harris) Richards in 1978.
At Harvey’s request, no formal service will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
He will be missed.
