REMENDA, Levenia (Lee) Zoria (nee Chocholik)

April 11, 1937 – March 16, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce that Lee Remenda of Calgary passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 75 years.

Lee was born on April 11, 1937 in Canora, SK and lived on the farm near Donwell, SK. She attended Bogucz School until grade four. The family moved to Canora in 1947, where she attended public and high school. She continued her education in Saskatoon at the business college and stayed at the Mohyla Institute. After completion she moved to Winnipeg, MB and worked as a legal secretary. Lee’s Ukrainian heritage was a huge part of her life. She enjoyed everything about all the aspects of the Ukrainian culture, whether if it was singing, dancing, cooking etc, she loved it all! She was then married to Zane Remenda on July 13, 1957 and had four children, Danny, Mark, Evan and Dawn. They resided in Norquay, SK for almost twenty years where they owned and operated the Rexall Pharmacy and were very involved in the community until 1979 when they moved to Vancouver, B.C. Lee moved to Calgary in 2001 to be near her children following the passing of her husband Zane on September 15, 2000. Lee’s favourite pastime was spending time with all of her grandchildren and family passing all of her love and compassion for her Ukrainian traditions.

Lee is survived by four children Danny (Tara), Mark, Evan (Denise) Remenda and Dawn (Glenn) Conner; grandchildren Nicholas, Nicole, Tanner, Joseph and Tyler Remenda, and Travis and John Conner. She is also survived by her siblings Nestor (Mabel) Chocholik and Violet Keleher; nieces and nephews Sharon, Peter, Jim, Theresa, Linda, Matthew, Joan, Jane and Toma and their families; sister-in-law Audrey; and by Lee’s companion Steve Chorney. Lee was predeceased by her husband Zane Remenda in 2000, her brothers John and Ernie Chocholik and her parents Peter and Stefania Chocholik.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road N.E.) on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. A Requiem Service will be held at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road N.E.) on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in the Garden of Resurrection at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. 17. John Kentwell :

My heartfelt sympathy to all. I wish I could be there to celebrate the life of such a kind and loving person. A simple poem.
    God’s Garden
    “God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down upon the earth,
    And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
    And lifted you to rest.
    God’s garden must be beautiful,
    He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
    Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
    And whispered “Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you.
    But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.”

  32. Joe Dutcheshen :

    Danny, Mark, Evan and Dawn;

With much sadness and a heavy heart I just read of your Mom’s passing in the Kamsack Times newspaper.
I often would think back to my times in Norquay working with and learning from your Dad and Mom. Learning much more than pharmacy and how to run a drugstore but also how to LIVE and ENJOY LIFE. Your Mom and Dad have had a profound effect on me and my deepest respect. I learned a lot from them the way they would handle themselves and their interactions with people in general. In my life I often referred to their standards and characteristics and tried to emulate them. Your Mom was always ” a classy lady ” and your Dad was always an expert at handling any situation and would through a little humor into almost everything.
The years I worked in Norquay were absolutly the best times in my life getting to know your Mom and Dad and Uncle John. Great Memories I have charished all my life those WERE the best of times. Thank You Lee and God Bless all the Remenda Family.

    Joe Dutcheshen B. Sc Pharm. (’77 )

PS.I can just imagine the celebration in Heaven .
PPS. I have 3 boys and our youngest is named, Colin “Zane” Dutcheshen.
