REID, Lyle Trudeau

January 30, 1925 – Ottawa, Ontario
December 21, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lyle Trudeau Reid on Sunday, December 21, 2014. He was born January 30, 1925 in Ottawa, Ontario to parents Alma and Rodger Reid. He was the eldest of three children. Lyle attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia but interrupted his education to serve his country during WWII by enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Following the war he married Zoe Dianna Le Lacheur on August 30, 1947. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. Shortly after marrying they moved west to Edmonton, Alberta where Lyle worked with Capital Builders for several years; then established his own custom home construction business. Lyle and Zoe later moved to Calgary where they resided until their passing.

Lyle loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed skiing, curling, hunting and fishing. Music also played a large role in his life, he sang in various church choirs, the Edmonton Opera Chorus and the Mount Royal Kantorei Choir.

Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his three children Doug (Kate) Reid, Kathy (Irv) Sandulak and Lou (Jean) Reid, his three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Chinook Care Centre for their kindness and compassion.

  2. To the children of Lyle Trudeau Reid, condolences on the passing of your father from the daughter of Mary Reid, who was the sister of your grandfather Rodger Reid. Your father was my cousin and I have sometimes thought of him and been sorry that our families did not stay in touch. I did send him a package of family photos and a watch which belonged to Rodger or Rodger’s father William Lyle, back in 2008 when my father died and we were cleaning out the house. I have been researching the Reid/McDiarmid family tree since last fall and just came upon this announcement. If you are interested, I would be pleased to share with you. I would also like to get in touch with James Wallace Shaw, descendant of Samuel L Reid, and noticed that he had left a message. I wonder if you have contact info for him. Sincerely, Anne Reid Gagné née Clifford
