REHMAN, Martha Ethel

July 8, 1932 – Invermay, Saskatchewan
November 3, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Martha Rehman (nee Peirson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on November 3, 2014 at the age of 82 years.

Martha was born to Robert and Anna Peirson on July 8, 1932 on the family homestead near Invermay, Saskatchewan where she grew up with her four brothers and six sisters.

Her early school years were at the Lone Spruce School and after high school moved to Saskatoon to further her studies. Her first job was in the housekeeping department at the newly renovated Patricia Hotel in Saskatoon. She later answered an ad for student teachers and moved to Macklin, SK where she taught at Meadowlands School. In Macklin, Martha met her future husband John (Johnny) Rehman where they were married in 1953. Martha and John moved to Bowness, Alberta and later to Calgary. From Calgary they moved to Invermay and took over the family farm.

Following the passing of her husband in 1971, Martha enrolled at the Wascana Institute in Regina, SK, graduating in 1973 as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later taking employment and dedicating nearly 25 years to the caregiving of others at the Regina General Hospital. In 1997 Martha retired to her favorite pastimes of gardening, making quilts, doing crossword puzzles, reading, travelling and visiting with her daughters and their families. In 2002 she returned to Calgary to be closer to family.

Martha was an avid sports fan, enjoying hockey, curling and particularly cheering on her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, proudly hanging her “Rider Pride” banner wherever she was.

Martha touched the hearts and lives of many and will be fondly remembered by her gracious generosity of the many, many quilts and afghans she donated and gave to those around her and even those she didn’t know, ensuring no one would ever be cold. For Martha, the most precious part of life was her family, her daughters, sons-in-law, grandsons, granddaughter-in-law, great-grandsons, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and all their families. She was happiest when spending time with family and always looked forward to seeing everyone at family get-togethers and the biannual Peirson Family Reunions.

Martha is remembered by her daughters, Christine (Tom) Lacquement, Barbara (Mike) Stenz and Jill (Todd George) Rehman; grandsons, Ryan Lacquement, Robyn (Tabrina) Rehman-Stenz and Scott Stenz; great-grandsons, Austin Rehman-Stenz and Colton Rehman-Stenz; brothers, Abraham (Bernice) Peirson and Fred (Gayle) Peirson; sisters, Kay Taylor Halldorson, Olga (Joe) Barteski, Lucy Michaud, Jessie Morris and Margaret (Bud Olson) Peirson; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1971; father Robert in 1970; mother Anna in 2000; brothers, Robert in 1945 and Herman in 2009; and sister Barbara in 2007.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Martha Rehman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  1. Theresa Legault :

It was truly a blessing to have known Martha, and to have enjoyed her company. Each and every time I am with her girls, I see a wee bit of her poking through, be it as personality, thought or spirit. I sadly but truly believe that she is now pain free and her spirit will continue to watch over and guide her family. Rest in Peace Martha and may the rest of you take pride in knowing she was so well loved by so many.

It is hard to lose a parent no matter the age of either of you. Take comfort in the fact that you were there for your mom when she truly needed you.
