REDIGER, Donna B.

June 9, 1939 – July 8, 2013

Donna B. passed away in Calgary on July 8th, 2013 after many years of failing health. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Donna attended Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario before moving to Red Deer Alberta to work at the present day Michener Centre. Becoming an educator/reading clinician was her desired profession so after attending the University of Alberta in Edmonton she embarked in 1966 on a 32 year career with the Calgary Board of Education culminating in her position as Assistant Principal at Mapleridge school. Donna was a founding member of the Calgary District Reading Council and was also Chair of the Calgary Teachers Convention in 1976. In 1979 she began attending the University of Calgary where she worked towards a doctorate degree. She was President of the Graduate Students’ Association and a member of the Board of Governors while attending University.

Following retirement in 1998, Donna was active with the Phi Delta Kappa Association and with the Soroptimist International of Calgary. In both associations she took on a leadership role. In 2007 she was awarded by the Soroptimist International of the Americas the Frances Wagner Woman of Achievement Award for her professional and community accomplishments. In her spare time, Donna continued to do volunteer work while pursuing her interest in stocks. Donna never forgot the numerous Canadian charities and political organizations that she supported financially on a monthly basis.

Donna was predeceased by her parents Pauline and David Rediger. She leaves to mourn her sister Gladys (Gary) Severson of Calgary, her brother Emerson (Minerva) Rediger of Curico, Chile and sister Eleanor Rediger of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan along with her nephews Vincent & David (Debbie) Severson of Calgary, Jason (Sierra) Rediger of the state of Washington, her niece Angela Rediger of Edmonton, her nephew Dr. Christopher Rediger of Saskatoon and their families. Donna’s last years were spent with the support of her sister Gladys and numerous friends in Calgary and across Canada. They shall not be forgotten. Special thanks to the staff of the Fanning Centre who provided assistance to Donna during the last two years.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary AB) on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Soroptimist International of Calgary by telephoning (403) 617-6266. In living memory of Donna, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

To the Family of Donna Rediger

Please accept my sympathy at this time

I knew Donna as Chair of the Calgary Teachers’ Convention Committee in 1976 as a committee member. I always enjoyed her instructive comments about chairing such a committee and respected her at all times.

Please know that she and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers at this time

    Sincerely

  5. Dear friends and family of Donna, I knew Donna better after she retired from than before. We played some golf together and enjoyed chatting. Donna was always well-informed about the world affairs as well as local matters and was a lovely story-teller. I will miss her at our Breakfast Club which I get to but seldom these days, as I live away from Calgary. I loved Donna’s voice. It had a depth and intonation seldom heard. Rest in peace, Donna. From your friend Mary
