RAMSDEN-WOOD – Carol Joyce

February 7, 1930 – June 14, 2011

Carol Ramsden-Wood, beloved wife of David Kolada of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the age of 81 years.

Carol was born in Grand Forks, BC to parents Ethel (nee Pennoyer) and Leslie Ramsden-Wood, and was the youngest of four children. Carol began voice lessons when she was fifteen, and that led to a professional singing career- sixteen years on stage in choir concerts and operas, numerous professional radio and festival appearances, and many many awards. Carol also toured with the CPO to celebrate Alberta Centennial in 1967, and for four years with the Alberta Cultural and Development Choir. She trained and sang with many famous conductors, accompanists and vocalists, including Ben Heppner, John Newmark, Bernard Diamont, and Haemo Tauber with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Carol recorded albums with the West Vancouver United Church as a contralto soloist. She was also active as a teacher, choir director and soloist at several Anglican and United churches in Calgary in the 1960’s and 70’s, and retired in 1982 from her soloist position at Central United Church. Additionally, Carol was an accomplished writer, publishing an exceptionally researched genealogy tome titled “Pennoyer Family History” in 1985, and poems with the Poetry guild in 1999. More recently, Carol was a member of the Music Makers Seniors Citizen’s Choir. Over the years Carol worked as a legal secretary, and enjoyed painting figurines, travelling and gardening.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of seventeen years, Dave; daughter Kathy Hogg (Alex); grandsons, Alex, Nolen and John; great-grandchild Teigan; niece Roxy (Dave) and their children; nephew Michael Hepburn and family; and many family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

We have many memories of Carol, Jim as a Schoolmate and I as her sister Joans friend and house partner, as we were widows with children and rented the house Carol left when she moved to Vernon. Carol sang so well and she will be missed. We will all be left with pleasant memories.
